Day two of my new and improved blog. I'm going to tell you a little story about a radical redhead who spouted and foamed at the mouth today because she is very passionate about her Church and women's health.
I feel there is a disservice to women happening in the country. I feel the HHS mandate is only the tip of the iceberg and I also feel that soon and VERY soon there will be an attack on large families, or on people who even want to have a large families, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I'll blog more on that after the elections...
Back to today. There was a town hall meeting today in my awesome town. Rep. Kathy Hochul was there to address local concerns as well as concern in congress. I can guaran-darn tee (that's my word)there were a sure load of fired up people ready to speak on behalf of the Catholic Church on our religious freedoms and freedom of conscience being taken away due to this HHS Mandate. Now, a bit of history for those of you who are sleeping under a rock...
The HHS mandate is a lovely little piece of Obama's new and rock star health package that will force all institutions, businesses, and private companies to provide the birth control pill (which you can get free from lovely places like Planned-why is my name-Parenthood, the local Health Department, or your local college vending machine), the morning after pill,(which also available in local college vending machines, and behind most pharmacy counters and available for a small fee if you're over 17, and I'm sure at health departments), and sterilization. (basically human mutilation, or getting fixed). Now, I'm guessing our President was not privy to the outcry that would come with it. Liberal and conservative Catholics, Southern Baptists, other prominent Protestant leaders, Jewish leaders, private sector big wigs lashing out at the audacity of a government actually having the nerve to tell us what we can or can not do!
But Mr. President came up with an accommodation! The insurance companies would be forced to cover these wonderful health options for women. As though some magic money tree pays the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies to pass out free contraception! Umm, hello? These Catholic institutions pay the insurance premiums! So even if I as an employer of St. So-and-so Hospital, truly believe and practice what my Church teaches, but I have to pay my premiums just like Suzy-who-has-to-have-contraception-or-else, pays her premiums. My insurance company uses BOTH our payments to pay for that FREE contraception. So in a round about way, I'm supporting the use of contraception. Here is where they just don't get it. Even if I'm not as an employer of a Catholic Health system, buying the, what I consider morally wrong, product myself, I am contributing financially to the payment of that so called "preventative medicine." (because apparently, pregnancy is now deemed an illness).
And a sidebar - for those who are asleep under the rock - you realize nothing is free, right? OK. As long as we're clear on that.
So, basically this mandate and it's pathetic accommodation, is just a radical piece of religious rights and freedom of conscience garbage.
The women's health part? Well, here is a tidbit- first and foremost-birth control is not preventative medicine. Secondly, the WHO (not the singing group, but the World Health Organization) has listed birth control as a KNOWN carcinogen. Yes, supposedly there is research that shows the pill helps in ovarian and uterine cancer, but while you are taking that little "un-natural" estrogen for 15 days and that progesterone for 15 days, you are exposing yourself to a carcinogen. You are increasing your risk for breast cancer and cervical cancer. And while we're on the subject, if you take the darn thing for 5 or more years prior to conceiving your first child that you know of (we'll get into the abortifacient part of the pill later)your risk jumps by something like 50%. Don't quote me on that yet, because I'll have to consult with my expert friend, Jennifer, on this. She knows EVERYTHING about the dangers of the pill and abortion on the woman's body.
Also that cute little "morning after pill" they named "Ella?" (who names medicine anyway?) Well, taking that little dandy is like consuming 50 birth control pills at once! Not to mention the little packet that comes with the pill? That alone should be enough to tell a woman that this pill is not healthy and not worth the risk!
Please let me adopt your baby, if you are that desperate to kill it. I have been trying for over a year now to conceive another child and I would gladly, and my children too, would GLADLY adopt your baby. I would gladly pay for your medical expenses as well.
So below you'll find a link to the station that was there at the town hall. I spoke, but I felt I was foaming at the mouth and lost all sense of who I was temporarily. I am pretty sure for that 1 1/2 minute that I spoke, I was at a dangerous position with my blood pressure and close to having a stroke because my brain was on overdrive. My husband did tell me I sounded strangely calm but fiery just the same. So maybe that wild, crazy, red head temper of mine is starting to settle down? Or heavens no. Trust me, you can hear my voice as I yell out to the representative... that wild red head is still there.
Radical as ever.
Oh, and by the way? I did take the pill for many years. I was a "know it all, you can't tell me what I can or can not take" kinda Catholic. I wish someone had told me all the dangers involved. It did affect me in a bad way. I wish I had known the true teachings of the church. If you would like to discuss it further-please contact me. I'm not just some religious freak preaching about something I don't know about- this is very real and very serious. The pill is not natural. And contrary to what the representative I challenged said- drinking diet coke is no where NEAR as dangerous as taking the pill... just so ya know...
Peace and blessings to you and yours. And please pray for me. As I pray for you. God bless you.
