Now that we've established that fact, you can imagine what it looks like when you visualize me bending and twisting into the various shapes and positions of Pilate's. Not a pretty image, eh? Yes, the real life image of me isn't either.
So, when we moved, my awesome, wonderful husband bought me the DVD my Pilate's instructor was selling, Pilate's Plus. Now, if you're from Arkansas and you worked out at Fayetteville Athletic Club before 2010, you know exactly who I'm talking about who teaches it. Liz. She is the most flexible person I've ever met in my life. Seriously, sit on the ground right, now. Go on, do it. Now put your legs in front of you straight out. Go on. Now bend over and touch your chest to your knees. I mean, put your face into the cup at middle of your shins. What? you can't do that? Well, Liz can. And she could probably stand straight up, legs spread apart and bend over and put her head THROUGH her legs and touch her bottom with her hands. She's seriously flexible.
So when you put a steel pipe in the class of a rubber band, you can imagine it will be entertaining. I'm sure when I took her class, it was entertaining to watch, but you're sweating so hard and having such a hard time keeping up with her and trying to breathe the right way so you don't faint, you don't really get the opportunity to look around and see all the other pipes trying to bend.
But when you workout and do Pilate's in your living room on your little Pilate's mat and your children are getting ready for school, or eating breakfast? They see it all.
"Mom, that lady can really bend. Will you ever bend that way?"
"Wow, you're getting better at standing still and not falling over, Mom."
"Whoa-that doesn't look good. Are you supposed to be so red, Mom?"
Yes, those are just a few of the lovely comments I've heard the last two weeks since beginning my Pilate's regimen.
I am attempting to strengthen my core and I have to admit, I can tell a difference in just two short weeks doing it 2-3 times each week. It's really amazing how our bodies respond to things like exercise. I don't ever want to become that person that let's exercise not be a priority. Unless my hip does me in, I want to at least walk, do Pilate's, attempt jump rope, and maybe even one day run to keep not only my body, because that is only part of it, but to keep my mind going. I don't exercise to be skinny-I seriously in all truthfulness, exercise for two reasons.
Are you ready?
1. My mental stability. (there's a whole lotta crazy in this world)
2. To be able to eat ice cream.
Hey-ice cream is a definite legitimate reason.
Bet you agree.
Stretch on and get out there and do something for you body, mind, and family. Exercise!
This is called 100's push ups I believe...I'm usually struggling to get oxygen to my brain at this point, so her words are fuzzy in my head...
This is rolling like a ball. I've mastered this move...minus the fact that she says you should feel every vertebrae when you roll-not sure I do that well...
Horse stance-this feels good after flexing my spine in directions that are not natural...for me anyway.
